Ages 8–10
Creative Development
At this stage, children begin to apply creativity with more structure and confidence. They begin to:

Continue developing coordination, knowledge and imaginative thinking.
LEARN
Develop new skills and techniques in drawing, painting and mixed media..
EXPERIMENT
Explore how these skills can be used for self-expression.
CREATE
Seek inspiration with greater intention and learn to develop original ideas.
COMPOSE
Build awareness of composition, spatial relationships, depth and detail.
CONNECT
Explore relationships between elements to create more balanced and meaningful artwork.
Focus: Exploration with structure — using new skills to express ideas while developing more cohesive compositions.
Stage 2.2
Ages 10–12
Creative Refinement
At this stage, children develop greater independence and begin to refine their creative voice.
REFINE
Strengthen coordination and technique while experimenting with more advanced methods.
EXPRESS
Use their skills deliberately to express emotions, stories and perspectives.
INSPIRE
Draw inspiration from observation, imagination and personal experience.
COMPOSE
Develop more sophisticated compositions through layering, balance and narration.
CREATE
Move beyond simply placing objects to explore storytelling and meaning-making.
DEVELOP
Create more cohesive artwork with clear intention and growing confidence in their personal style.
Focus: Refinement and intention — applying techniques thoughtfully and using creativity as a tool for narration, meaning and self-expression.
